Gwenda Daud has worked in the area of careers all her life, advising both young people leaving school and the older generation looking to retire to gain a better objective of life.

Gwenda Daud

Gwenda trained as a careers advisor in 1974 (Diploma in Vocational Guidance from Polytechnic of the South Bank, London UK) after completing a degree in Applied Biology. She realised that she was not cut out for a career in the using the harsh facts of science, requiring exactness and accuracy and began to investigate working with people and discovered the art of careers guidance.

She has worked in a variety of locations, including Barking and Dagenham, where she advised apprentices wishing to enter Fords Mechanical Engineering Courses, to Barnet where she assisted many students enter University and Higher Education.

The following years, spent gaining qualifications in Counselling (RSA Counselling Diploma) and experience in training (working with women returning to employment and teenagers with problems), left her without doubt that the most important part of life is motivation.

Moving abroad, she helped International Schools discover the importance of Work Experience and good careers information to establish careers programmes in many locations. Her position in the International Community offers her the unique opportunity to guide young people through the dilemmas of choosing the right path forward not only in UK but in other European Countries, the United States, South Africa and elsewhere. Her wealth of experience in the careers sector, her wide branching web of contacts and her involvement in many career related organisations has brought her to the point of realising that she can help a wider network of individuals.

With the onset of the Internet, Email and websites, she can offer guidance using modern technology to your advantage and so set you on the right path.

Routes to Future Focus

The Careers Interview

One to one interviews can be carried out in Portugal at any time.

Telephone Conversation

Talking to someone who does not know you personally can clarify your needs and ambitions; this can be done over the telephone as much as in person.

Internet Interviews

Using MSN Messenger to carry out an interview is possible, but it is generally less intimate than a normal conversation. This can serve as an important tool to help you to consider achieving your full potential.

Psychometric Testing

Tests are available online, or can be sent by email, and marked by return. Or alternatively scanned in and returned by fax. Such is the wonder of modern science!

Test can range from:

  • Understanding your underlying skills, whether verbal, numerical, special or mechanical.
  • Understanding your abilities, whether accurate, neat, dealing with the public or selling goods.
  • Understanding your personality traits, whether introvert, extrovert, confident or determined.
  • Understanding where your interests lie, whether with animals, people, machinery, art, music or business.
  • Assessing your basic intelligence.

Tests take from 20 minutes to 4 hours to complete and costs are dependent what you may require. A guide will be given before the assessment starts so you are able to choose wisely and cost effectively

Careers Information

Decisions cannot be made instantaneously, so you will need to explore what a career actually involves and see whether this inspires you. You need to research careers, talk to people in the profession, examine the options etc before making your mind up. This process can take a long time, involving a lot of concentration and hard work, but much of this can be alleviated with the expert assistance of a careers consultant who will advise you beforehand and cut down the work load significantly.

Parental Involvement

Yes, parents, teacher and friends are important, (they often have to pay!) but from a Careers point of view the person who is important is the individual who is making the decisions. The process will take place between the client and the counsellor, and parents and others will be brought in at the end of the process to inform them of the decisions made. Following a consultation and discussions with respect to everyone’s opinions, we can agree on an action plan that is sensible for everyone

Costs

Costs depend on the tests needed and the length of time involved for the interview and can range from 100 to 400 Euros. An initial free discussion will help to ascertain your needs and then, following suggestions as to what will be best for you, an estimate will be given and agreed.
